Fitness Specialist

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provide and maintain an enjoyable, noncompetitive, and safe environment that embraces healthy changers for program participants.
- Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations governing Wellness Center compliance including the use of exercise equipment, cleanliness, purchase orders, inventory of supplies, participant files, computers, and other electronic equipment in the Wellness Center.
- Provide group classes and one on one instruction using a variety of fitness and exercise techniques.
- Evaluate individual abilities, needs, and physical conditions and develop a suitable training program to meet any special requirements.
- Work closely with the Health Promotion team, medical providers, and partners to provide patients with comprehensive care to help individuals and groups with their fitness goals.
- Tracks program participant progress (A 1 C, lipid panel, weight loss, exercise goals) and other indicators to evaluate program success.
- Ensure proper NextGen documentation, confirm charts are securely filed and in a timely manner.
- Teach and demonstrate use of various therapeutic modalities and training equipment such as weights, when appropriate.
- Provide program participants/students with education and resources regarding nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues.
- Administer emergency first aid, wrap injuries, treat minor chronic disabilities, and refer injured persons to physicians.
- Conduct outreach to establish and maintain relationships with health providers and community agencies for referral, networking, and billing (for any outside referrals/care, etc.) purposes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Exercise Physiology. Two (2) plus years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties. Must have an ACSM Certified Exercised Physicologist or equivalent. Must possess a valid Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card and valid state Driver’s License. Must pass a background check in accordance with NACA Policy. Must be current with required immunization per the NACA HR Policies and Procedures and Infection Control Policy. Must obtain a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and HIPAA Certification (can be acquired before and/or after hire).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of physical fitness, exercise, nutrition and instructions, and motivational approaches to wellbeing and good health as recommended by the American College of Sports Medicine.
- Knowledge of physical fitness assessment for health participants and those with health issues.
- Willingness to undergo training and maintain current certifications is essential.
- Ability and demonstrate skills in project/time management, customer service, event planning, and able to independently use sound judgment and problem-solving skills in daily execution of duties.
